A birthday

We did it! We turned one over here! We had a nice little party.

Ivy took a nap in the middle of the festivities. Chris woke her up for some cake -it didn't seem right to have Creston blow out candles all by himself. In the next picture you'll see that Creston almost burnt his one year old fingers on the single candle (where was his mother?!), but not quite.  Turns out Creston and Ivy really like carrot cake.

Now we're conquering year two. It's good stuff so far.

We turn ONE tomorrow!

Oh, man. At this moment last year we were headed into a long night of labor. Can't figure out if it feels like just yesterday or an eternity ago, it's kind of confusing that way.  But what an amazing year it has been! Sleepless and amazing.

Creston surfaced his first tooth AND started walking today, all in time for the big birthday.  Ivy has had teeth for quite some time and bit me (her mother) on the shoulder yesterday.  It hurt like hell but also was somehow incredibly funny and the expletive I shouted at top volume was followed by uncontrollable laughter on the part of both mother and daughter. Probably not the best way to teach Ivy that biting is not cool. She is also fully capable of jetting across the room (or anywhere she wants) on her own two feet at this point.

Here they are on the eve of their birthday.

Happy Birthday, Creston and Ivy! We're going to party this weekend.

Home Alone(ish)

We had quite a week with Chris away in Tahoe. Sleeping was minimal and we are all very happy to have him home. Luckily, we did have Grandparents in town to help us out.

Before she arrived, Grandma Carola sent along a food shopping list that could hardly be believed.  Five medium eggplants? Ten onions? Four pounds of ground beef? Did she know that she was only feeding two people for less than a week?  But nevermind, it was all delicious. And there were two little people who occasionally horned in on the adult food as well.

Grandma stepped away from the stove for a minute to throw a ball for Sammy in the backyard. Creston and Ivy watched her every move.

And Grandpa Syd came down later in the week.  He just published a new book that is dedicated to his grandchildren. He also has tower building skills aplenty.

Cousin Jane came over with sweet baby cousin Henry.

Creston and Ivy are almost one year old! Maybe we'll get another post in before that birthday comes and goes... If not, think of us on St. Patrick's Day!
